An online lecture took place at Yonhee Hall #401 on September 13th, from 17:00 to 19:00. The lecture was organized in cooperation with the Keio University EU Centre and the Yonsei-EU Jean Monnet Centre. Professor Hideki Hayashi of Keio University prepared the lecture. The lecture was on the subject of “Europe’s Crisis of Multiculturalism: Causes, Trends and Prospects”.

The lecturer was Prof. Christian Joppke, Head of Department of Social Sciences, Chair in General Sociology, University of Bern. In his lecture, Professor Joppke discussed the issues of integration and immigration in Europe, detailing the current situation for integrating the immigrant body into the society, as well as measures for improving the process.

The differences between multiculturalism and civic integration were explored, and the problems and challenges caused by religion were also discussed. As a part of the solution, Professor Joppke offered suggestions such as selective immigration, integration of school systems, and reducing discrimination.

A discussion session between the professors attending the seminar took place after the presentation, as well as a question and answer session with participants from the floor.
